Councilman Fifer appointed to national
communications committee

Arvada Councilman-at-Large Bob Fifer has been appointed to the National League of Cities 2013 Information Technology and Communications Steering Committee.

The committee is responsible for developing federal NLC policy positions on issues regarding telecommunications and information systems, privacy concerns, cable TV, phone services, spectrum issues, communications tower siting, universal service, broadcasting and defense of city rights-of-way from degradation caused by installation of communications facilities.

The appointment was announced by NLC President Marie Lopez Rogers, the mayor of Avondale, Ariz.

Seniors, students collaborate
to create art for gallery

The Community Recreation Center is celebrating the opening of its annual Art for the Young at Heart show Feb. 13.

Community artists age 50 and older partner with North Jefferson County schoolchildren to collaborate on making art for this show. The event is sponsored by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District and North Jefferson County schools.

The opening reception will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Community Recreation Center, 6842 Wadsworth Blvd.
