Great-8 bound for RV girls

Mustangs play at the Denver Coliseum March 3

Ralston Valley’s girls team scored its second state playoff victory Feb. 28, to beat Pine Creek 50-31.

The Mustangs, hot off a league championship season, faced a defensive struggle against Pine Creek, but a 13-point advantage in scoring in the second quarter helped the girls earn the victory.

The Mustang's defensive pressure kept all of Pine Creek's players in the single digits. Seniors Micheala Shaklee and Chloe Gillarch led RV with 13 points each.

The team enjoyed a first round bye in the state playoffs. On Feb. 24 the Mustangs beat Rangeview 89-49 to advance to the Sweet-16 round.

In that game, the van Sickle sisters combined for 40 points. Shaklee added 13 points, and Gillach 11 points.

Up next, RV will face Cherry Creek, 4 p.m., March 3, at the Denver Coliseum.
