On Valentine’s Day, 18 golden retrievers were flown to Los Angeles from Istanbul, Turkey, to new lives and new homes in the United States. The dogs — strays on Istanbul streets — are now housed at the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue and the Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies. They will be cared for and adopted over the next few weeks to months.
“Some of these guys were found on the street, some at kennels or shelters,” said Kevin Shipley, executive director of the Golden rescue. “It’s pretty amazing. These dogs are awesome and their temperament is amazing ... for being out on the streets. They’re just so friendly.”
The Golden rescue has 10 of the 18 dogs, ages 2 and older. All were named after Colorado places, people and things and will be adopted after they’ve recovered from the trip and are given a clean bill of health.
