Children lined the edge of Secrest Pool the afternoon of July 12, preparing for their chance to recover as many pennies as possible from the bottom. With the sound of the horn, they dove, jumped and belly flopped into the outdoor Arvada pool with their eyes on the prize.

The penny dive was just one of many activities planned for the mid-summer pool party hosted by the Apex Parks and Recreation District at its outdoor pools, Secrest and Lake Arbor.

“We wanted to do something for for our community that would be fun and bring them together,” said Katie Groke Ellis, Apex community outreach and communications director.
