I’m 16 and I’ve been a Boy Scout since the first grade, so that’s 10 years. I’m in Troop 999.

I love to play sports. I play soccer. And I love to be outdoors — I like to swim, and go fishing, hiking and camping. I also enjoy singing. I’m in the men’s choir and ensemble at school.
Next year I’ll be a junior at Faith Christian Academy in Arvada, where I’m also a student councilor.
My family and I have lived in Applewood for 14 years. I like that it’s quiet and there’s a lot of nice people in our neighborhood. I’m close with my family. I live with my parents, my older sister Emily, 18, and our dog Oakley. My extended family also lives nearby.
`Bless Your Heart’
Right now, I’m a Life Scout and I’m working on my Eagle Scout service project. For that, I’m making heart-shaped pillows for the children at Children’s Hospital who have had open heart surgery. These pillows will comfort them and help them recover.
I’m making 204 pillows in three sizes to accommodate toddlers, adolescents and teenage patients. They are red with Bless Your Heart embroidered on them in blue thread.
I got my Eagle start in 2015, but a lot of the work for my project has been accomplished this year. I set up a Go Fund Me page so people could donate online, and I also sent out letters to friends and family that asked for contributions to fund my project.
Seeing my project through from the beginning has been rewarding. And I’m excited for the delivery. I don’t have a set date yet, but I expect it will be sometime during the week of July 24.
Giving back to Children’s Hospital
I was inspired to do the pillows because my mom and sister both struggle with heart complications.
But also because I have had three surgeries at Children’s Hospital. My first surgery was for a venous vascular malformation when I was 12, the second was a bone tumor when I was 15 and the most recent one was when I hurt my ACL playing soccer last March.
My Eagle Scout project is close to my heart because I want to give back to Children’s Hospital for what they’ve done for me.
