The Arvada Hockey Association, a nonprofit local hockey club, held their first ever Fall Fest at LUKI Brewery on Nov. 4. The fundraiser benefit’s AHA’s financial scholarship program and other expenses for the club’s travel teams.
LUKI Brewery hosted the fundraiser and donated 50% of the evening’s proceeds to the AHA. AHA’s financial scholarship program lowers the cost of ice time for players dealing with financial barriers associated with the sport.
“We try to bring the game of hockey to kids who can’t afford it,” said AHA parent and volunteer Bonnie Snelling. “Some of the money raised tonight will fund teams for tournaments, some of the money will go directory to teams and the financial scholarship program.”
Snelling said AHA approached LUKI to host the event due to their proximity to the club’s dryland practice facility and a connection to LUKI Owner Jeff Smith, whose daughter plays on the same soccer team as Snelling’s.
“We opened during COVID, so this helps us a lot. We really wanted to be there for fundraising, as it brings a built-in audience,” said Smith. “We’re trying to establish ourselves. It’s a circus, and we try to bring that atmosphere to the tap room.”
Snelling added that AHA hoped to make the event an annual affair.
“We’ve been trying to partner more with the community,” Snelling said. “it’s a great way to reach out to people and get people to come out.”
