Arvada-based nonprofit Hope, Community and Connection is hosting its second annual “Hope for Kids” back-to-school drive to support low income students in the community. Donations of school supplies can be dropped off at the HCC table at the July 9 Second Saturday event in Olde Town or by contacting Arvada City Councilmember Lauren Simpson at firstname.lastname@example.org.
HCC has partnered with Simpson, State Representative Lindsey Daugherty, the Arvada Jefferson Kiwanis Club and the Action Center for the drive. The goal of the fundraiser is to provide 100 students in need with a fully stocked backpack and a shopping experience for new clothes and shoes, as well as to donate school supplies to JeffCo Public School teachers.
Student selection for the supplies will be handled through an application process run by HCC. In addition to school supplies, HCC is donating Target gift cards and will treat students to a personal shopping day at the Arvada South Target location in August.
Sponsors and potential applicants can reach out to HCC founder Julia Walker at HopeConnectionCommunity@Gmail.com.
The drive is seeking all school supplies ranging from backpacks to binders to notebooks as well as Expo markers, paper clips and tacks for teachers and any other supplies that might be helpful in a learning environment.
The Arvada Jefferson Kiwanis Club kicked off the drive with a $1,500 donation. Swanson Elementary and Arvada K-8 have committed to supporting the program.
