Arvada Fire supports firefighting efforts out of state

The Arvada Fire Department continues to help firefighters battling wildfires in other states, sending crews to both California and Nebraska.

On Aug. 29, Arvada Fire sent three wildland firefighters to California to replace the three firefighters who went to the state on Aug. 15.

The original three returned home after serving their maximum two-week deployment.

The same day, the department sent three wildland firefighters to Chadron, Neb., to help put out a wildfire there.

They will be deployed through Sept. 12 at the latest.

Olympian to participate in Harvest Fest parade

This year’s Harvest Festival parade will have a guest of Olympic stature. The parade will feature Kelsey Campbell, 55-kilogram freestyle wrestler who took part in the London games. She will bring the Olympic torch to the parade.

The parade will also feature Rocky Mountain School of Dance’s Silhouettes, a dance group that took second in America’s Got Talent last year; 14 high school marching bands; and mascots Rocky the mountain lion from the Denver Nuggets, Wooly the mammoth from the Colorado Mammoth, and Bernie the St. Bernard from the Colorado Avalanche.

The parade begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 and runs down Olde Wadsworth Boulevard, between 57th Avenue and Ralston Road; and then down Ralston Road, between Olde Wadsworth and Holland Street.
