Construction on two parks along Ralston Road is ongoing, with one nearing completion and the other beginning its second phase.

Wolff Park, located next to Arvada K8, is expected to open this spring, said Assistant City Manager Vicki Reier, after final landscaping and construction is completed.

Ralston Central Park, between Garrison and Carr streets, is expected to open this fall.

“Construction for the park is anticipated for the spring into the fall, so it’s another summer without the park, unfortunately, which I think is the hard part for people,” Reier said. “It’ll be worth the wait, even though it’s really hard for people.”

Up until now, construction at Ralston Central Park has been focused on creating culverts and lowering the land to remove the park and the surrounding neighborhood from the flood plain. In the spring, construction starts on the actual park, which will include a splashpad, seasonal restrooms, two play areas, picnic areas and more. The picnic areas have been redesigned to match the architecture of the nearby neighborhood, Reier said.

Construction involving the flood plain is nearing completion, but a few projects remain. Garrison will remain closed until late April as workers move a utility line, an effort delayed by cold weather and unforeseen underground infrastructure, said Wendy Forbes, Arvada communications manager.

Workers will replace storm drains on Brooks Drive in the coming months. Garrison will be repaved and Brooks will be repaired following these construction projects.

“When Hammond [the contractor] completes their work, the ground level will meet the requirements for the 100 Year Flood Plain,” she said. “But there is a year of FEMA approvals and reviews. They have to do new surveys and things to validate the improvements meet the requirements.”

Nearby property owners who are currently in the flood plain can expect relief in terms of insurance and liability after the improvements have been verified by FEMA, Reier said. The city will contact those property owners once FEMA has done its verification.

Ralston Central Park will remain closed as construction continues.
