Staff Report
The Colorado Horse Park hosted not one, but two successful equestrian events in the Olympic disciplines of eventing and dressage.
The Colorado Horse Park Horse Trials and the Dressage at High Prairie Shows I, II, and III were on May 29-31 and had strong participation at all levels. The CHP Horse Trials ran 12 divisions ranging from Intro to Intermediate with competitors competing across the range of phases, starting in dressage, moving on to cross-country, and concluding with stadium jumping.
One of the hotly-contested divisions was the Open Training, which was won by Lynden Fasso, of Arvada, on Everest III, an 18-year-old Thoroughbred gelding. It was a triumphant return to the ring for Fasso, who has had a long road with Everest III. She first partnered with him in January 2011 and she credited him for getting her back into competing in eventing after a tragic car accident killed her previous mount.
“With him, I was able to continue what I love without it being sad by what happened to my last horse,” she said.
Fasso and Everest did the one-star event at CHP in 2012, but after multiple injuries, Everest was off for two years. But with solid performances and spectacular clear rounds, Fasso and Everest went above her expectations.
Additional division winners at the Horse Trials included: Open Intermediate: Darlene McInnes, Elizabeth, CO, Warlord; Training Rider: Kristin Hardy, Parker, CO, Enchanted; Novice Horse: Rochelle Costanza, Franktown, CO, Bellefire; Senior Beginner Novice Rider: Julie Weir, Elizabeth, CO, Imagine That VII.
