Fashionably Taught opens Nov. 13, unintentionally scheduled within Denver Fashion Week (Nov. 9-17). Cosmically timed within that week, one might say, as gallery resident Zachary Reece is finishing his latest and largest piece just in time for this show, it is an homage to fashion designer Christian Dior that he began in spring not knowing of this show being within Denver Fashion Week, only inspired by the Dior show that had passed through Denver Art Museum earlier this year. A sample of his work in progress shown here.
This will be Reece’s centerpiece of Fashionably Taught, shared with artist Keith Oelschlager, a brilliant figurative artist with many tantalizing lady subjects that makes for a fine match with this and other of Reece’s other works of classy international ladies.
“Some time ago, I decided that my most thrilling challenges in the pointillism style is clothing,” says Reece about his chosen medium, tediously assembling his works with circles and dots by hand via digital illustration. “The folds, shadows and textures are a playground for me. I feel like I’m like reverse-engineering the actual weaving, stitching and pleats of the clothing. It’s time intensive, but sensual.”
