Horizon High School’s Blake Kramer wound up using most everything that was available for recruiting during a pandemic. He eventually chose Western Colorado University.
“I was able to visit a few schools in person and virtually and really liked the campus and program up at Western,” he said. “I also like that it’s close to home.”
He took a pair of game-day visits, plus his official season after the fall season concluded. He was able to meet current teammates, his new coaches and other recruits.
”Choosing a college was kind of tough for me,” Kramer said. “I wanted to make sure I chose somewhere I wanted to be for the next four-plus years. After the third visit, I was sure I was making the right decision.”
Western was one of three schools that made Kramer’s final list of options. Greenville University in Greenville, Illinois, and Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska, were the others. Kramer wants to study sports management and land a job with Altitude Sports in Denver.
The Hawks won three of their 10 games last fall. Kramer caught 72 passes for 1,007 yards and 10 touchdowns.
“Recruiting, in general, is crazy,” Kramer said. “I had to figure out Twitter and make sure I was sending my film to the right people. The pandemic just added more Zoom calls, which I’m getting pretty used to.”
Kramer admitted to a case of nerves as he awaits the start of college life.
“Nervous, yes, but very excited,” Kramer said. “I love the program and coaches up at Western and am ready to get started.
“I would like to thank my family, friends and coaches that have helped get me where I am today.”
