GOLDEN — Senior Allyson Goodwin found her scoring touch when it really counted Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Golden High School.
Goodwin didn’t score through three quarters for Golden, but she got the hot hand in the final eight minutes. The senior guard poured in 11 points in the fourth quarter to help lift the Demons to a 45-34 victory over Bear Creek in both teams’ season opener.
Golden and Bear Creek were tied at 28-28 heading into the final quarter. Goodwin and fellow senior Audrey Pino combined for 15 points in the final quarter. Pino finished with a game-high 14 points for the short-handed Demons.
Seniors Maggie Jones and Elli Garrett didn’t play for the Demons (1-1 record) in the opener because of injury and illness. Golden lost 65-21 at home to George Washington on Dec. 4.
Bear Creek (0-2) led for the majority of the first half. Sophomore Caroline Pigati led the way for the Bears with 13 points in the first game for Bears’ new head coach Jake Marshall.
Juniors Cali Reno and Jordyn Johnson combined for 14 points for Bear Creek.
The Bears lost their home opener to Green Mountain 70-14 on Dec. 5.
