I am strongly opposed to a single hauler trash monopoly in Arvada for many reasons.
First, Republic is a $9 billion a year Phoenix-based company that was sued in Missouri (Bridgeton Landfill) for toxic waste in a landfill. We use Crush and love their customer service in addition to the fact that they are a Colorado small business. As we rebuild the economy, we support Colorado companies.
Second, the City Council should not be doing this while we’re under a Safer-at-Home order and people cannot voice their opinion on this issue. This is being rammed through under a split vote and does not represent Arvadans, as a whole. Only special interests.
Third, when this was on last November’s ballot in Lakewood, the single hauler proposal lost by about 20 percentage points. And interesting enough, several council members received campaign contributions from the hauler. Coincidence? I doubt it.
The City Council will be voting this in on June 15. They need to hear from you before then because they are determined to get this through while people aren’t able to show up and protest. To reach the entire City Council, email kristen@arvada.org with your thoughts.
Denise Mund,
Arvada
