Letter to the editor: We should all vote on trash issue

I am writing about the pending vote before Arvada City Council for a city sponsored waste hauler. As I watched the City Council meeting on May 4th, I became very concerned about the urgency that some members of City Council displayed in moving this to a vote. I wonder how many residents are unaware of the full details, impact to individuals and cost to our city. In the May 4th meeting, some Council Members brought up pausing this process, even suggesting this decision to be moved to a vote by all who live in Arvada, but only a few Council Members supported it. In looking more into the situation and discovering the millions of dollars this will cost, a citizen vote seems appropriate. I was very pleased to see Council Member Bob Fifer recently make a statement on social media in favor of a citizen vote. I am hopeful that as this issue is considered on June 15, Fifer and the others who advocated for a delay will be able to convince the remaining Council Members that a citizen vote is the appropriate way to make a decision of this magnitude. Thank you Council Member Fifer for the wisdom to advocate for the citizens to have voice AND vote on such an important issue! I encourage everyone to look into this more and to participate in public comment prior to the City Council vote on June 15th.
Kelly Eargle,
Arvada
