Wet and wild has taken on new dimensions at Water World.
Two new attractions debuted at the 64-acre water park’s grand opening June 28, After months of construction, park officials say, the Mile High Flyer and Double Dare, which cover 2.3 acres at the Federal Heights park won’t disappoint.
“The Mile High Flyer is one of the most exciting attractions we have ever built and certainly the most high tech,” said Joann Cortez, spokesperson for Water World. “It’s full of surprises and you never know what is coming around the next loop or hill. It’s just amazing.”
The Mile High Flyer is a hydromagnetic water coaster, the only one of its kind west of the Mississippi River. The ride is powered by linear induction motors that shoot riders up and down over two minutes of hills and drops at 15 mph. It features an audio soundtrack connected to the ride that adds a “click, click, click” sound that mimics the sound of an old wooden roller coaster.
“There is a screaming, whirling sound that will help create heightened anticipation for people waiting in line to ride,” Cortez said. “There are other rides out there like this one, but at Water World, we try to always take a step beyond.”
Each four-person, 100-pound boat is moved to the beginning of the ride, and takes people up and down five hills during the course of the ride.
Double Dare is Water World’s newest speed tube slide. It is 41 feet tall and 290 feet long featuring two, two-person tubes. The side-by-side tubes are in a figure-eight shape and allow riders to compete to see who can speed down the tubes faster. Double Dare is next to the popular Turbo Racer, an eight-lane, belly-down ProSlideOctopus mat racer.
“Double Dare was strategically built adjacent to the Mile High Flyer and Turbo Racer to give guests a variety of fun and challenging racing options in a close-in area,” Cortez said.
