Suspect sought in relation to car theft, shot when trying to “speed backward” while pursued by Arvada Police Officers

One suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting took place around 9:25 p.m. June 27 in the 7400 block of West 61st Avenue in Arvada.

Isaiah P. Proctor, 40,  was identified as the deceased suspect in a car theft that led to the officer involved shooting.

Proctor was pursued by Arvada Police officers in connection with the theft of a Ford F550 pickup truck near 58th Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard that occurred around 9 p.m. on June 27.

"Several" Arvada Police officers are on administrative leave, according to Arvada Police Department Public Information Officer Dave Snelling. The Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the officer involved shooting and the Arvada Police are investigating the initial car theft.

Snelling said the suspect was running while APD officers — who found the truck in the area due to a tracking system — attempted to apprehend him.

“He got in the truck and attempted to speed backward when officers fired at him,” Snelling said.

Snelling said the suspect was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
