Proud to deliver for Colorado families

The 2019 legislative session recently came to a close, and while there has been a lot of attention paid to the day-to-day political gamesmanship, I am proud of all that Democrats accomplished that will make life better for all Coloradans.

Democrats came into the session with an agenda to lower the cost of healthcare, invest in education, and help hardworking Coloradans achieve the financial security - and we passed bills to achieve it, including:

· Increasing drug company and hospital pricing transparency

· Securing funding for statewide full-day kindergarten

· Passing Equal pay for equal work

· Bring oil and gas oversight into the 21st century to protect public safety and turn industry into a better neighbor

· Fighting climate change

On all of these issues, and so many others - such as addressing the opioid epidemic, making housing more affordable and investing in transportation infrastructure - we got real results that are going to help hardworking families in Colorado.

For my part, I am proud that 90 percent of the bills I sponsored passed the legislature in my first session as a state senator. This is legislation that is going to help lift up working families, level the playing field in our economy, make our air cleaner, protect the vulnerable, and make it easier than ever for citizens to vote. Some of the bills I passed:

· Promoting a fairer economy with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act (SB-085)

· Expanding and creating better access to high-quality apprenticeship programs (SB-196 & SB-171)

· Fighting elder abuse by making abandonment and confinement of at-risk persons crimes (SB-172)

· Making wage theft a felony (HB-1267)

· Making voting more accessible for disabled Coloradans and putting Automatic Voter Registration into law (SB-202 & SB-235)

· Honoring women veterans and professional fire fighters (SB-205 & SB-167)

· Giving municipalities local control to set minimum wage (HB-1210)

· Making zero-emission vehicles more affordable (HB-1159)

· Increasing the safety of freight rail operations (HB-1034)

· Giving home health care workers a raise (SB-238)

It is an honor to serve Jefferson County in the Colorado State Senate and to work on behalf of families in Colorado. From cheaper health care, to creating more good-paying jobs, to making public schools stronger, we worked to build a better Colorado and are proud of all that we accomplished.

Jessie Danielson is the Colorado Legislature Senator for District 20, which encompasses portions of Arvada, Wheat Ridge, Golden and Lakewood.
