High fire danger has led Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Shrader to put in place temporary Stage 1 fire restrictions for all of unincorporated Jefferson County.
The restrictions, which took effect Tuesday afternoon and will remain in place indefinitely, prohibit building fires anywhere except a permanently constructed fire grate.
The restrictions also limit smoking to enclosed buildings and vehicles, and spaces of at least six feet in diameter that contain no combustible material. Required permits for open burning activities such as bonfires will also not be issued under the restrictions. The user of tracer rounds or other explosive type targets is also prohibited.
The restrictions include exceptions for liquid or gas-fueled appliances. It allows for recreational fires and the use of charcoal grills 30 feet or more from an undeveloped area.
Residents building permitted private fires are encouraged to contact their local fire agency and advise them of start and finish times so the fire department does not conduct a smoke check at their home.
Colorado was four days into a state of emergency on Friday, March 13, but it didn't look or feel that way around lunch time in downtown Golden.
The parking lots around Washington Street were full while most stores appeared open and many restaurant tables were filled with diners.
But looks can be deceiving
I think its crazy that this all happened so fast because at first it was like oh there is coronavirus and it is spreading but then all of a sudden it was in Colorado and within three days we were talking about shutting down school then they said two days after spring break then all of a sudden its next week so its just the rate its spreading at is kind of scary a lot of kids aren't worried about because they don't think they aren't going to get sick and if they do they are like well no one is going to die but people are getting sick and dying
Every class is different right now we are all doing online classes like some classes are doing Google Hangout and some classes are doing Google classroom and worksheets online and turning them in and its just different for every class and we all have to do attendance at different times and I think it's just a big mess right now but it might get figured out if it lasts long enough
I would rather be inside than at home doing it because it is a lot more complicated but I mean it is fun to have some days off and not be at school and at risk
I think it is absolutely insane and people are living in a state of fear and panic and they are being extremely selfish Why in the world is toilet paper in mad supply because of the coronavirus that makes no sense but people are just panicking
My sister is out of toilet paper and she asked me to check
I'm not worried about getting the virus I am sure I will probably get it but I think it will be like the flu the thing I don't want to do is put anyone else at risk
Campus isn't closed physical class meetings have just been cancelled
I'm still coming to campus I think the measures that Colorado School of Mines has put into place is adequate and that I will continue to address the situation as needed
I really didn't think that much of it I was like alright this is stupid because it only affects people 60 and over it doesn't really affect teenagers like teenagers get the flu but it doesn't correspect with coronavirus
You have to take attendance online like you go on Google Classroom and you just go online and sign in Daily thing do your own thing
I think it will be fine I get to sleep in
We won't have school it's in the afternoons
We haven't noticed a drop actually we are a little busy
Wintertime is a little hard for us because just the weather kind of kills business
So its kind of hard to tell if it's from the virus or not but we've been busy last weekend we hit our record day so we've been busy
Our record at one point was 4700 and we just hit 4900 this past weekend
I think actually people wanted to get their fix in before everything
Cleaning before we weren't wiping down knobs and the credit card machine as often and that's what we have been doing
A few of the guys girlfriends in here are all about the whole virus thing and have been giving us information left and right my girlfriend included so as soon as we knew we started cleaning all the fridges that get touched eveyrhting that gets touched by the customers the counter we hit that every 20 or 30 minutes and try to stay on top of that
We feel pretty good about it the boss is saying if everybody else is shutting down like Woody's and bigger places we will probably follow suit but we are going to try to hang in there and keep this place alive
Besides that we are just going to try to really stay open
January and Feb were very quiet months anyway because it was so cold so we were anticipating March would be a nice pick up but so far it hasn't happened
Kids are in spring break families are doing spring break stuff but there is very little traffic in GoldenSpring break is usually a good time for us
I pay rent seven days a week I am going to be here seven days a week
I move things around I clean and dust and redo my displays on a daily basis and just hope whatever do going to draw attention
We can't be afraid of it whatever is going to happen its going to run its course and you hope its just a short period
I wont bring it up but sometimes they will mention something about the coronavirus and I thank them for coming in anyway
I'm not worried about that I've been here for 15 years so I've been through ups and downs but we know it will affect the bottomline how much buying we do and how much extra help we can bring in I get tired of working seven days a week
Donna The good part is last year this time they were talking about the bomb cyclone so we are not dealing with that right now so that is positive
Those expecting to find a ghost town
