Event switched to raising money because of the pandemic

Although COVID-19 has canceled plenty of events, not even a pandemic could put a stop to Jefferson County’s 26-year food drive tradition.

Instead, county staffers decided to modify the drive so that it could take place entirely online with money donations replacing the traditional non-perishable foods.

The drive, which was held in May, was open only to Jefferson County staff for the first two weeks before it was opened up to the entire community, with the goal of having community donations match those of Jeffco staff.

A total of $8,800 was raised during the four-week event. That money, which the county said will provide $26,445 meals, is being distributed to five providers of food resources in Jeffco: Community Table - Arvada Community Food Bank, Evergreen Christian Outreach (EChO), Jeffco Eats, Light of the World Roman Catholic Church, and The Action Center.

Each foundation is receiving a check for $1,760.
